2007 JOBS EXPO FOR OVER 45s A SMASHING
SUCCESS
The ACC’s The ACC’s Wise Workforce
Jobs & Training Expo for over 45s is over for another year,
and the results are in: an estimated 850 mature age job
seekers came through the door on the day, and in excess
of 300 job vacancies were available for immediate
application, easily beating the figures from the previous year’s
expo.
There were also 32 trade stands providing information
on programs, resources, support and training for the mature-aged,
12 workshops covering topics such as interview
techniques, health & lifestyle, job applications and financial
management, and demonstrations including Bollywood dancing.
The aim of the initiative, which was held at the Strathpine Community
Centre on Thursday July 12, is to help match up the region’s
mature age unemployed with local businesses suffering skill shortages,
and provide support to job seekers to help them achieve their
goals. The expo also helps promote the benefits of mature age
workers to the wider business community.
This year the expo was preceded by a very special breakfast launch
at the North Leagues & Service Club, with the world’s
most famous mature-aged worker – Her Majesty the
Queen – dropping in to kick off proceedings. The
Queen (comedian and impersonator Gerry Connolly) took the opportunity
to talk about life as a mature-aged ruler of the Commonwealth
and her views of a changing world to more than 230 loyal subjects
at the event, including expo trade stand holders and local business
people.
The expo is an initiative of the Moreton Bay Coast & Country
ACC and is supported by the Pine Rivers Shire Council and Brisbane
North Institute of TAFE. For further enquiries contact the ACC
